Spanish Celebrity Chef Spends Time on Denis Private Island

Posted ago by Select Seychelles

Madrid-born chef Alberto Chicote, is not just famed for his appearance on the Spanish language version of Kitchen Nightmares, but his Asian-Mediterranean fusion cuisine has earned him a name beyond the Spanish capital where his restaurant, Yakitoro, is located.

This interesting restaurant concept sees a menu that is inspired by traditional Japanese yakitori (brochettes), cooked on grills in-view of customers. But Chicote, in his Madrid restaurant, takes the Japanese custom and combines it with traditional Spanish culinary concepts like patatas bravas and cocido madrileño and, essentially, grills them on a stick.

Chef Chicote recently spent a relaxing few days on Denis Private Island in the Seychelles. This unique island destination combines all the luxury of a secluded island getaway with a very interesting concept – sustainable cuisine!

Denis Private Island grows its own fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, as well as rearing its own beef, pork, poultry, duck, rabbit and quail. The dairy from the island’s farm not only provides fresh milk daily, but a range of organic cheeses are also produced and, of course, the day’s catch ensures that only the freshest line caught fish are prepared for guests.

Sounds like the perfect place for any chef to escape to, doesn’t it? Well, throw in the weekly Sushi buffet and you can see why this was the perfect fit for Chef Chicote.

According to, “happiness” is what Alberto Chicote seeks in his cuisine. “I want my customers to be happy, to leave the restaurant feeling contented.” We know that Chef Chicote certainly found happiness on Denis Private Island and left the beautiful Seychelles feeling as content as he hopes his customers to be. We look forward to welcoming him back soon.

(* The second season of ‘Nightmares in the kitchen’ was recently launched and it had an extremely successful audience, with the highest viewers ever reached. It is regarded as one of the best programs relating to Gastronomy in Spain.)

  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline – Business Class
  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Cabin Crew

Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, has scooped two coveted accolades at the World Travel Awards 2014, further enhancing its status as the leading carrier in the Indian Ocean region and beyond.

The airline was awarded Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline – Business Class and Indian Ocean’s Leading Cabin Crew. The awards, established in 1993, recognise the very best travel organisations in the world through a global vote by travel professionals from 171 countries.

Joël Morgan, Seychelles Minister for Home Affairs and Transport and Air Seychelles Board Chairman, said: “To receive these two awards is testament to the outstanding efforts of the entire team at Air Seychelles, our strategic partnership with Etihad Airways, and the innovative approach we have taken to being the best at what we do.

“Today, in addition to being a key economic enabler for Seychelles which has helped boost tourism and cargo numbers, Air Seychelles again takes its place for outstanding service, international aspirations, and most of all for being a worthy ambassador for our beautiful island nation – a source of pride for all Seychellois.”

Manoj Papa, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, added: “Central to our success is always being ahead on what our guests expect from us. That means continuing to enhance our hospitality proposition, making travel more enjoyable, connecting more parts of the world directly and with partners to Seychelles, and crucially, offering one of the finest flying experiences at an attractive price.

“We’ve done this by tapping into best practice methods of our partner Etihad Airways, in areas such as product, service, and training, and these industry accolades now demonstrate the value and benefits of where we are today.”

“In Business Class on our two wide-body Airbus A330-200s we offer lie-flat seats, a dine anytime concept, personal on-demand inflight entertainment, and in-seat power – everything one would expect from a leading airline. Equally, our 140 cabin crew embody the very essence of Seychelles’ style, Creole warmth and hospitality for which the islands are synonymous.”

World Travel Awards President, Graham Cooke, said: “The World Travel Awards recognise and reward the best travel organisations and Air Seychelles is no exception. The growth and development of the airline in such a short period of time has been nothing short of spectacular.

“Air Seychelles has carved out a niche for itself as a boutique airline to the Indian Ocean, achieved through partnerships with a far reaching international footprint.”

“Today it holds its own as an iconic airline brand delivering superlative service with its leading business class product combined with cabin crew service which is truly award winning.”

“We are delighted to present these awards to Air Seychelles for achievements in providing world-class products and developing tourism and aviation in the region. We wish the airline and staff many more years of success.”

Air Seychelles’ success at the World Travel Awards caps what has been a remarkable 2014 to date for the airline.

Since January Air Seychelles has reported a second consecutive year of net profitability, taken delivery of two 19-seat DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft for domestic services, signed codeshare agreements with Alitalia and Hong Kong Airlines. It has also doubled the number of codeshare routes offered with strategic partner Etihad Airways.

In addition, the carrier has re-started its flagship Paris route, revamped cargo handling facilities at Mahé airport, launched a new weekly inter-island domestic cargo service, and given indications it is on course for a third year of profitability.
